Angels of Angola

On 26th of March because it was raining heavily and road to Luanda was small and difficult to pass. After the accident, I was not riding my bike but pushing it. I found that accidents were normal. Within 10 km of distance, I saw 3 road accidents. And the reason was small road with heavy traffic and slippery road due to the rain.

Rain was the main problem for me since I left Huambo on 22nd. While I was taking the uphill to Kimpapa, the sky was full of clouds but the rain got a chance to hit me only after I left Kimpapa and it didn’t stop completely until I reach Luanda.

After the accident on 26th, I was pushing the bicycle in the small and slippery road of Angola, a lorry stopped nearby. Rogeiro Marqnd came out from the lorry and offered me a help. As I have just met and accident and it was getting more difficult to reach the Luanda, that way, I took a little distance of lift in the Lorry. Not only the lift but he also let me stay with him in the expensive Luanda for the time I was there.

Rogeiro says, ‘If we don’t have peace, we are not happy.’ Of course! We are alike in our thought. He is father of 6 kids. It was a very nice and homely stay at Redrio’s house at the vienna neighborhood. It was not easy have the place peaceful as now, it took more than four decades for Angolan to have minds free of fear. We shared a lot of time together and shared our happiness and grief too. It was very bad to know that more than 5 family members of Redrio have lost their life in the war. Words wont be enough to thank Redrio and his family for such a beautiful time I spent in Angola and such a wonderful support.

After I had a place to stay, it was my urgency to get a affordable way of communication. So, I had to go to a telecommunication provider. I chose Mobicel. The first day, I simply had an inquiry with the only lady (Jessica Lima) with whom I was able to communicate in English. In a Portuguese speaking country, it was very difficult to get anyone with whom it would have been easy to communicate. Meeting Jessica was bliss. The internet service I wanted was not available then, but Jessica took my number and assured me to call after the service was on. She called me sometimes later and the next day I bought an internet package.

The Internet didn’t work and when I was in mobicel, the day after, I got a chance to meet this young lady once again. It was a pleasure to have someone actually understand what I was really speaking. She found the problem with the internet and came upon a solution. I had to buy a Mobicel modem that cost me $ 50. Of course, I wouldn’t have afforded it.

But, Jessica Lima is a very cordial young lady. She trusted me and gave me the modem to use for some days so that I could get contact with everyone and be in touch. Also, it was all her co-operation that I enjoyed the stay of Luanda a lot. I am delighted to know that she liked what I am doing and it is my honor to know that she was happy to meet a cyclist in her homeland. 30th of march was a problem again, there was no electricity till 3th of march, and only with her support, i was able to be in regular contact with everyone. Also, Jessica helped me have some good moments to cherish in Luanda. It was all her support that I had some very wonderful time in Luanda.

I must not forget Hendrik ang Angela for making me being able to arrive Huambo and finally to Luanda and complete my tour of 91st country Angola. On the very first day I entered the country, I got a chance to have a pleasurable stay with Hendrik and his family.

Angola is among the most expensive country in the world and it was a nightmare for me being able to sustain in one of the most expensive city in the world-Luanda. It was all the support of these wonderful friends that I was able to stay and enjoy Luanda and of course Angola. Also, its all because of them I am now able to be at Democratic Repbulic of Congo. I wish everyone in angola remain in PEACE AND HARMONY.
