Greetings from Ethiopia

greeting

I reached Ethiopia on the 9th of October. My plan as when I left the US and came here to Africa and even on my last few days in Sudan, Eritrea was next on the list of countries to visit next. Sadly, I could not get the country’s visa in time hence I started my journey to Ethiopia via Rufaa entering Ethiopia through the Ma Galabad Boarder. It took me almost 7 days to get there from 3rd of October. I cycled a total distance of 1565 Kilometres in just Sudan itself.

I am on the road and reaching the capital city of Ethiopia, Addis Ababa in a day’s time. Ethiopia, an old country beyond all imagination, has culture and traditions dating back over 3000 years ago. The country is rich with millions of year’s worth of history of human evolution. I visited a few of the country’s attractions on my way to Addis Ababa, the Lake Tana which is the source for the Blue Nile and the largest lake in Ethiopia. The lake is so vast and overflowing, you cannot see one end to the other end. The lake can be clearly seen from space. I also visited Tis Abay, a source for the Blue Nile too, which translates to ‘Water that smokes’ and the name speaks a million words because the speedy gushing water seems smokey. The best thing, Tis Abay is one of the main resource hydroelectricity for Ethiopia and there are a couple more hydroelectric projects which are going to be completed soon. Aside from all the water visits, I managed to visit the famous Fasil Castle, the only indigenous castle in Africa built by Emperor Fasiladas in the 16th century. The constructions of the castle must have been done properly and with great pride. The withstanding walls are the proof. I am going to spend a few days in Addis Ababa and visit more attraction site of the country.greeting1
