Meeting with Mayor and Deputy Mayor of Nairobi

meet

Nairobi, home to some three million people, extensive wildlife and United Nations Environment Programme, it has been pleasant.

Currently I am staying with a Nepali family and I am cherishing each second of it before I leave for Uganda soon. After a long stretch of not eating Nepali food and talking Nepal, this is a little touch of heaven. Despite saying that, more than Nepalese, I am more dependent on the country’s native people who will tell me anything and everything I need to know and they will help in everyway they can.

Yesterday, the 16th of November, I had the opportunity to hold a short dialogue with the Mayor and the deputy Mayor of the courteous city. We discussed environmental issues and showed them my appreciation by gifting them a souvenir I bought from Nepal; a portrait of our Himalaya. The Mayor was blown by the magnificence of it, I heard him say “wow”. It will definitely be one of the most memorable parts of the tour so far. They also gifted me a small award for my efforts. Other than environmental issues, we did cover other topics of building a pathway for wheelchair users for the elderly and the disabled and a bicycle path which the Mayor graciously said they will definitely bring it up in their high-level meetings while letting me know that they are doing as much as they can do for the elderly and the disabled which certainly placed the cherry atop our small session.

I would like to take this opportunity to thank everyone who have helped me along the way and to Thuo Kamau who I met via a common friend of our Ali. Kamau has been very kind enough to arrange meetings with media personnel for me, so far I have sat down with four television stations for an interview and he was also responsible for setting up the meeting with the Mayor. Till then, keep in touch and take care.
